MSM, Should You Try It?
MSM, short for methylsulfonylmethane, is a critical element of nature your body needs to maintain optimal health. And not getting its bare minimum required for the body can even be fatal.
What is it, exactly?
It's not a medicine. It's not a drug. It's also not an herb. It is a member of the sulfur family. And it's found in nature. In the ocean, in the rain, in the soil, in animals, and even in you.
Sulfur is also considered a mineral.
An essential mineral.
MSM is mostly found in healthy animal foods, and lesser but still available in plant foods such as garlic, onion, legumes, and the cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage..).
And they're readily available for us when we eat these things in raw form.
But we don't always eat them in raw form.
It is said that cooking foods greatly diminishes the amount MSM we take in.
Additionally, our air, water, soils....as you know...aren't what they used to be or are meant to be.
We have to be extremely cautious of how we live and what we put inside of our bodies to ensure that we get the best of the best all the time.
Which seems impossible to some, and may very well be impossible, for many.
And even when we do get enough sulfur, namely MSM, through our food, we can become depleted easily. Especially with the modern lifestyle as well as the substances we may take and habits that we consider 'the norm' today (think excess alcohol, coffee, chemically laden items considered 'food', and pharmaceuticals loaded with chemicals that have never been studied to decipher correlations and causations regarding the delicate internal mineral ratios inside of us).
MSM is critical in the following ways:
It is needed to:
* Ensure optimal function of nerves, muscles, skin, and bones.
* Make collagen in the body.
* Act as a primary constituent of cartilage and connective tissue formation and
repair.
* Build blood.
* Create healthy new cells.
* Grow healthy new hair.
* Prevent and even reverse symptoms of aging.
These are BIG things.
MSM powder is made by either distilling or crystalizing certain plant materials (in my research I've come to conclude that distilling is considered best as it produces a more pure form of MSM and traps less unwanted material in the process). It can also come straight from the ocean. Once processed using one of these two methods, you receive dried flakes or crystals of pure, raw, MSM sulfur (MSM in its non-raw state is what we call DMSO - a whole other supplement, for another day).
And something else to add: MSM is a water soluble mineral. This means it is not easily overdosed, as the miraculous body will discard the excess through urine when it has received and utilized its maximum for the day.
Always a key thing to consider when considering ingesting anything. Anything at all.
And now, for some studies.
Let your research on MSM begin, my friends.
